Episode Context

Episode 668 arrives immediately after Episode 667's 'Maruko Really Wants a Puppy,' but makes no attempt to continue that premise, pivoting entirely to two unconnected short stories that reinforce the season's strictly episodic, anthology-style structure. It leads naturally into Episode 669's 'Let's Make a Fountain!' and 'Maruko Aims for the Leftovers,' maintaining the same self-contained format. There is no overarching serialized thread here; this episode is representative of how the season operates as a whole.
