The calm before the storm,. We can see that tension is rising everywhere, and everyone is getting ready to make important decisions, from Claus and Lavie to Vincent. This is definitely a great episode to start the last ten episode of this series, with the build up feels natural and people that actually thinks about their decision, the writing really is great. I do want to give props to the animator and director for making the scene bathed in darker color than the usual, which makes the atmosphere feels somber, especially the scene with Claus and Lavie. I hope we'll get a great climax for the next episodes!

A little slow-paced for me. Not much happened that was a major event, only in the last part, another battle. 😢 Claus’s revelation to Lavie about their ship was heartbreaking, but Lavie tried to turn it into something positive. I noticed that I can’t differentiate the airships that each side is using. It got me confused; maybe the animation wasn’t as clear before as it is with the newer animes now obviously. I think it would be better to add more details to each ship.

People who you thought were unscrupulous were in fact the most trustworthy of them all. It was a sad episode with revelations revealed to those in the dark. Like in previous episodes the cgi is quite rough, and limited in its capacity given the era. However, it comes across as novel, used sparingly and was only used to supplement the action rather than a lazy attempt to cut corners.

EPISODE CONTEXT

Sitting at episode 16 of 26, Breakthrough arrives at the narrative midpoint where consequences of earlier strategic moves begin crystallizing into real political crisis. Following Fairy Chess, where calculated maneuvers started reshaping alliances, this episode deepens the empire's internal fractures and forces key characters to define where their loyalties truly lie. It feeds directly into Making Material, which carries forward the fallout from the decisions made here.
