I did not thought I would enjoy this series as much as I do, or maybe because this is only the first episode. The animation is really great for its time, then again, this is Gonzo, the same studio that brought us Hellsing and Full Metal Panic. The story started at a point that I don't really know where was that, but I'm glad we get a little bit of explanation later on. Overall a good first episode, especially with that ending cut off just like that, making us want to see more!

I like the music from the opening and closing credits. This is a really new genre of anime for me; I'm not familiar with it, but I'm starting to like it. The story is unique. I just don't understand why some parts have a hazy, blurry style of animation while others are clear and vibrant. The outlines are sometimes very detailed. The Vanship animations were quite realistic too, despite this being an old anime.

I love the opening it makes me nostalgic for .Hack//Sign, I have an appreciation for early 2000s music. The art style is a mix between .Hack, and Gunslinger Girl, with perhaps Gundam Wing. The animation is pretty good given what they're given to work with at the turn of the century. We are introduced to an interesting premise early on. The story is complex, yet easy to follow, and the events unfolding before us helps us understand the how the world is governed.

This episode serves as an excellent foundation for the series factions and environmental lore. It establishes very rich, very complex setting through visual storytelling. Though beware that I might be biased due to it being my Childhood Anime.

Good Anime

EPISODE CONTEXT

As Episode 1 of 26, this is pure foundation — there is nothing before it, and everything after it builds from what is established here. Claus and Lavie's introduction, their dynamic as vanship pilots, and the geopolitical texture of Prester are the bedrock on which the season's escalating conflicts and mysteries will rest. Pay attention to the world details seeded here, as later episodes will demand that familiarity.
