Synopsis
At 19 years old, half-demon ninja Miko Mido, heir to the Miroku clan and college student, is just trying to fall in love for the first time, which is already complicated enough without a supernatural predator showing up. A mysterious female ghost starts draining the life-force from her schoolmates, and when Miko realizes the phantom has also noticed her love interest, the situation becomes personal fast. What starts as a school-set mystery pulls you into a layered world of ninja clan mythology, demonic realms, and supernatural horror that actually has some weight to it. The 4-episode OVA format keeps things tight, and the mythology around the Miroku clan gives the story more texture than you might expect going in. Arms Studio leans into the blend of horror and eroticism in a way that feels deliberately crafted rather than incidental, the supernatural tension and the mature content feed into each other rather than sitting awkwardly side by side. If you've already worked through Urotsukidōji: Legend of the Overfiend or Demon Beast Invasion and want something with a similar mid-90s dark supernatural energy, this fits that space. It's from the same era and the same creative DNA, adapted from manga with a clear sense of its own tone. Don't expect it to be subtle. it isn't. but the mythology gives it a backbone that holds the episodes together.

Miko trying to act like a normal girl around Hidemasa really made me root for her, even though she has that ninja duty and the whole Shikima realm is falling apart. It was cool how the show mixed the creepy ghost grudge with the high school romance and Fubuki warning everyone about the life force draining phantom made it feel serious
That contrast between Miko being a deadly ninja and getting all flustered when Hidemasa talks to her made the school scenes actually fun to watch
my skin crawled when the phantom started stalking the guy miko likes because it felt like she was losing her chance at happiness
I think Miko finally finding someone she likes only for a ghost to start sucking the life out of everyone around her is such a dark turn, especially when you see how much she struggles to balance her feelings with the investigation. The way the phantom hones in on her love interest makes the stakes feel personal and quite scary for me
the phantom targeting mikos classmates was unsettling and the way it drains them is hard to watch
that life force stealing ghost is actually pretty creepy and it makes the school setting feel way more dangerous than a normal romance
I was frustrated when that ghost went straight for her crush and ruined the whole mood of miko trying to talk to him for the first time
Kyoshiro and Shanahime have such a cool design and their grudge against the Shikima makes them way more interesting than typical villains
The shift from cute romance scenes to that phantom draining the life out of those students made the whole episode feel much heavier
Those ninja moves Miko pulled out to stop the phantom from hurting her friends totally caught me off guard and I want to see more of those abilities
Fubuki saying something is wrong in the Shikima realm really sets a dark tone and it makes the phantom attacks feel like part of a much bigger problem
The way Shanahime and Kyoshiro went after Hidemasa made the stakes feel way more personal than just some random monster attack at school
Miko meeting Hidemasa outside her apartment was actually kind of sweet and I felt bad when that phantom ruined their moment by draining the school kids
It was pretty funny seeing Miko use ninja skills while trying to keep her crush on Hidemasa a secret, particularly when those demons kept getting in the way
The 90s art style in this OVA really makes the ghost attacks look creepy and the way they drain life force is pretty gnarly to watch
that mix of supernatural horror and sex is so weird and the female ghost stalking her love interest is actually creepy
I remember hearing about this classic for years and finally seeing the sex craft ninjutsu in action was a trip. Miko using her own body as a weapon is so absurd that it almost feels like a parody of regular ninja shows. That countryside background art looks great for an old OVA even if the content is super dark and aggressive.
miko realizes all that love making was just a lie and you can really feel how much that betrayal hurts her in that moment
that flashback with the shikima demons was pretty rough to watch and they definitely made it clear how evil these guys are right away
I was not ready for the pubic hair ninjutsu and it is actually hilarious how she uses it as a weapon against those ninja guys
