Synopsis
With her tanned skin, flashy fashion, big personality, and full-on gyaru energy, Rina has been making her childhood friend Zen dress up in a bear costume since they were kids. Cute, right? Except now they're older, and their little game has drifted into territory that's a lot less innocent. Zen's been going along with it, but when he finally puts his foot down and says he wants out, Rina panics and does something she clearly should have done a long time ago: she tells him how she actually feels about him. That confession flips everything between them, and what started as a weird nostalgic ritual becomes the foundation for something real and way more intense. This OVA, adapted from the manga by studio Blue bread, leans into the gyaru subculture aesthetic in a way that gives it a distinct look and feel. The core dynamic between Rina and Zen is what carries it; there's genuine emotional weight underneath the setup, with Rina's vulnerability cutting through her confident exterior. It's character-driven in a way that keeps you invested beyond the surface. If you've seen Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid and liked the push-and-pull between its leads, or if the messy childhood-friend dynamics in something like Fucked by My Best Friend hit the right notes for you, this scratches a similar itch. It's playful, a little absurd, and surprisingly tender when it counts.
