Kunoichi Sakuya
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Dispatched to hunt down a traitor named Feiying in feudal Japan, kunoichi Sakuya — a female ninja — finds the mission going sideways fast when she ends up captured, and another kunoichi named Xiao gets pulled into the mess. That's the setup, and it leans hard into the tension between loyalty and betrayal that runs through a lot of classic ninja stories. This is a 2-episode OVA from 2011, adapted from a visual novel by Lune, so it's compact and doesn't waste time on setup. The feudal Japan backdrop actually gets some attention here — there's a genuine effort to portray what life looked like for female warriors operating in a world that wasn't exactly built for them. The character dynamics between Sakuya and Xiao carry most of the weight, and the conflict around Feiying gives the story enough stakes to stay engaging. The tone is tense and grounded rather than flashy. If you've watched anything like Kunoichi Hunters or Kôshoku kunoichi: Aieki-zeme and appreciate that specific blend of action and atmosphere set in historical Japan, this scratches a similar itch. It's not reinventing the genre, but it delivers a focused story with characters worth following through the short runtime. Worth a watch if ninja lore and that era's aesthetic appeal to you.
