Really sets the tone for the series right from the get go. There's a moral dilemma that is allowed to breathe by the episode instead of rushing through it. It's patient in its storytelling with a strong feeling of atmosphere throughout.

Great series opener, sets the tone perfectly. Everyone expects a lawless hellhole, but the twist on what 'no murder law' actually means is genuinely clever. Kino and Hermes' banter is already so charming. Excellent, thought-provoking start.

What an interesting introduction to the anime. The pacing is slow, but it's not boring at all. The animation is also good since I think this is a remake of the original one. There's still a lot of information missing in this first episode, and I'm still wondering why a motorcycle is talking 🤣.

I really love adventure anime especially with kino style. Really show you what is the real adventure. Especially with the great views

First episode and the MC is already heading into a place people say is bad news. The visuals and music just make it so good to watch scene by scene. But that ending though totally caught me off guard, didn't expect that at all

The tension is real because you expect chaos, but find a weirdly peaceful town instead. It is such a beautiful and deep episode.

Crazy how that an anime from 2017 reached this level of quality and storytelling, I adore this anime so much, pls and pls watch it, the bond of Hermes and Kino is sweet, also watch the Kino original it contains some story not found in this one!

EPISODE CONTEXT

As the first of twelve standalone-style episodes, this premiere establishes the core format: Kino arrives in a country with a strange custom, observes without judgment, and moves on. It introduces Kino and Hermes's dynamic and the show's philosophical DNA before leading into Episode 2, 'Colosseum,' which shifts to a more physically confrontational scenario while maintaining the same moral inquiry framework.
