Kimi wa Yasashiku Netorareru The Animation
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Since childhood, Haruta and Rio have been inseparable — the kind of close that makes everyone around them assume they're already a couple. They're not. Haruta has feelings for Rio but keeps burying them, convinced the timing is never right. Rio, meanwhile, sees him more like a younger brother than a potential partner. It's a slow, quiet tension that's been building for years without resolution. Then Kaito shows up — an old mutual friend who takes one look at Rio and decides he's not going to wait around like Haruta has. This is a 6-episode OVA from Studio Seven adapted from manga, and it leans fully into netorare territory, so go in knowing what you're signing up for. What separates it slightly from similar titles is that the setup actually takes time with the character dynamics before things escalate — there's genuine awkwardness between Haruta and Rio that gives the situation some weight. If you've watched Netorare: Tanabe Yuuka no Dokuhaku or Toriko no Kusari and appreciated when the emotional groundwork is laid before the drama hits, this follows a similar approach. Kimi no Na wo Yobeba fans looking for something with more explicit content might also find the childhood-friends framing familiar. It's not going to rewrite the genre, but if you want something in this space with a recognizable emotional setup and decent character expressions, it does what it sets out to do.
