Synopsis
In a world where a totalitarian regime has crushed just about every form of resistance, a young swordswoman named Aiko refuses to give in. The opening episodes drop you right into a mission where she's breaking into a heavily fortified facility to pull out captured allies, and things go sideways when she runs into a figure called Virgo — someone with supernatural powers tied to astrological signs and a past that clearly has layers to it. From there, the story splits between rebellion against an oppressive government and the mystery of who or what Virgo actually is. This is a Majin-produced OVA based on a game, and the animation is genuinely impressive — the fight choreography is fluid, and they lean hard into the dark, atmospheric tone with a soundtrack that keeps the tension up. The power system built around astrological abilities adds a wrinkle you don't usually see in this kind of setting. It's bleak and morally grey, with characters who aren't cleanly heroic or villainous. If you're into titles like Bible Black or Discipline: The Record of a Crusade but wish they had more actual plot structure and action sequences, this one threads that needle. Fans of La Blue Girl's supernatural combat elements will also find familiar ground here, though the tone is more grounded and serious. It's dark, it's intense, and it doesn't hold your hand.
