Karakara-sama no Himitsu
Oshimeter
Synopsis
While visiting his grandfather's rural village, a young man ends up offered as a sacrifice to the local water deity. Sounds ominous, but the 'god' who shows up is Moeki — a sweet, flustered girl who explains that the ritual involves, well, intimacy. What follows is less terrifying and more awkwardly charming than you'd expect. Then she forgets how to get back to the heavens, so she just... stays. That's basically the setup, and the whole thing leans into that gentle, slightly absurd domestic premise rather than going anywhere particularly dark. The folklore angle is what makes it stand out a little. There's a real effort to root the story in traditional village customs and water deity mythology, which gives it a more grounded aesthetic than most entries in the genre. The character designs lean into that traditional feel too — think muted tones, rural scenery, a quieter mood overall. If you've watched something like Yosuga no Sora and appreciated a romance that takes its time building a cohabitation dynamic, this hits a similar note. Fans of Aki Sora who enjoy that blend of supernatural-meets-slice-of-life will also find familiar ground here. It's a single OVA from 2001, so the commitment is minimal — one episode, a self-contained story, no cliffhangers. The tone is genuinely lighthearted rather than dramatic, which is either exactly what you're looking for or a reason to skip it, depending on your mood.
