Synopsis
In late 20th century Japan, sex trafficking has become so normalized that the government had to build a specialized task force just to fight it. That's the world Kamyla drops you into — dark, unglamorous, and uncomfortably grounded in a real social problem. This 3-episode OVA follows the early operations of that unit as they work to infiltrate underground networks and pull victims out of a criminal market that's grown bold enough to operate almost openly. The task force members each carry their own reasons for doing this work, and the show doesn't shy away from how morally complicated and physically dangerous it gets. Nobody here is a superhero — they're people grinding against a system that's deeply rotted. The tone is serious throughout. If you're coming in expecting something lighthearted, adjust your expectations now. Kamyla sits in similar territory to Cool Devices or Bible Black in terms of mature content and dark atmosphere, though it leans harder into the thriller and procedural elements of its setup. If you appreciated the way La Blue Girl built out a world before getting into its content, Kamyla has some of that same structural instinct. It's a short watch — three episodes based on the original manga — so it doesn't overstay its welcome. The story stays focused on the setup and the first operations of the unit, which gives it a tighter feel than a lot of OVAs in this space.
