Kama Sutra
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A beautiful princess, recovered from a glacier in the Himalayas, is revived by a doctor through some highly unconventional medical techniques. That alone sets the tone for what this 1992 OVA is going for. His son Ryuu immediately falls for Princess Surya — hard — and decides the best way to win her heart is to master all 48 positions from the ancient Kama Sutra. It sounds like a comedy premise, and it mostly is, but then an entire tribe called the Naga shows up wanting Surya back, and suddenly Ryuu is dealing with supernatural enemies on top of his extremely ambitious romantic education. The whole thing has that loose, anything-goes energy that early 90s OVAs specialized in — action sequences, broad physical comedy, and ancient Indian mythology all crammed into a single episode. Go Nagai's artistic fingerprints are on this, so there's a recognizable wildness to the character design and staging. If you've seen Adventure Kid or Gokujyo and appreciated how those titles committed fully to their ridiculous premises without winking at the camera, this operates in similar territory. It's a short watch at one episode, which means the pacing never really slows down. Don't go in expecting deep mythology or a satisfying emotional arc — this is a snapshot of a specific era of anime where the premise itself was the whole point, and that's exactly what it delivers.
