The world looks beautiful, and the story is interesting. There's a lot of action in the first episode. The character designs are good and unique.

a start that directly shows the nature of the story and provides us a great idea of how they are dealing with the kaiju. typical aspiring first ep where the mc lives a mediocre life with a dream to be a hero. the sudden change of course at the end however is very intriguing

A normal man aspiring to join the Defense Forces to fight Kaiju currently works cleaning up their remains. His determination and courage may soon become crucial, as his life is about to change dramatically in the opening of a standout modern anime.

Pure, hard-hitting action from the very first minute. If you like action and don't want to wait through several episodes just for character introductions, this one is for you. Action first, explanations later. Easy to follow from second one.

Good start and direct engagement with character and its world. Story revolved around Common man hero Kafka's life. Kaiju seemed to be real.

If you like chaos and a world full of monsters, this anime is for you. The main character always keeps his goals in mind (despite his age) and has a very interesting attitude. The animation in this series is excellent

Man, I didn’t expect to vibe with Kafka this much. Dude’s scrubbing monster guts and life regrets—then boom. The dynamic with Reno is gold, and the animation? Crisp. It’s a slow, but that ending? Yeah... I'm in. If you like chaos and mid-life crises, WATCH THIS.

Great animation with a shocking development from the first episode , loved how the MC is not giving up till the end and damn the reaction when he turned himself into kaiju was pretty hilarious .

What a premiere. The kaiju outbreak scene was animated insanely well and Kafka's whole underdog situation hits different. Perfect mix of comedy and action, this show knows exactly what it wants to be.

The hype, action, and comedy of this series for just the first episode is great! Remarkable name for the main lead that will engaged the viewers; not the typical name you can imagined for the protagonist. Well, the female lead looked like Mikasa for me. But the comedy is peak!

A strong opening that perfectly captures Kafka’s exhausted adult life, lost dreams, and sudden second chance. The hospital twist lands hard and instantly changes the tone, making this episode feel emotional, funny, and exciting all at once.

Episode 1 flips the usual hero story by following Kafka, a kaiju cleanup worker who failed to join the Defense Force while Mina becomes a captain. It blends humor and emotion with strong animation and an intense hospital attack, ending with a shocking twist and unexpected path.

Great hook for a first episode. The world-building is simple to understand but also engaging enough to still be curious . The main character is a bit unique due to his age, but the show is just as inspiring as other shonen shows out there with a younger protagonist.

Interesting premise, seeing the POV of the ones who clean up after those who fight kaiju. Great, natural chemistry between the casts too and a plot twist that earned its place.

Interesting first episode, And I like the soundtracks. I also love their character writing here, it is somewhat wholesome with a mix of blood and monster. Overall, this a great first episode.

An action-packed military anime with a fast pace, featuring an ordinary main character whose job is to clean up the remains of kaiju after battles fought by the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force.

We meet main character, a man who once dreamed big and somehow ended up cleaning the remains of other people’s battles. The opening feels grounded and surprisingly human: exhaustion, regret, and that quiet fear of being left behind.

I didn't know what to expect from Kafka's world at first. It is a world full of monsters and Kafka was a member of the clean up team. I really thought it was just going to be an anime about how he became the best among the soldiers but plot twist - he was Kaiju No. 8.

A strong, emotional premiere that blends explosive action with surprising heart. Kaiju No. 8 sets itself apart by focusing on second chances, burnout, and what it means to chase a dream long after you think it’s passed you by.

EPISODE CONTEXT

As episode 1 of 12, this is pure foundation — world-building, character introductions, and thematic stakes are all laid out with purpose and efficiency. The episode plants the seeds of Kafka's internal conflict and his renewed sense of purpose, directly feeding into episode 2, 'The Kaiju Who Defeats Kaiju,' where his trajectory takes a dramatic and irreversible shift. Everything here is setup, but it's the kind of setup that already carries momentum.
