Synopsis
Completely random people get recruited by a secretive organization to pilot a giant robot they know almost nothing about, that's the setup, and it works better than it sounds. Aoi is an undefeated racing champion and model, Kurara is a narcotics investigator, Sakuya is essentially a carefree homeless guy, and Johnny is a regular office worker. None of them asked for this. A secretive organization called Dragon's Hive pulls them together anyway, and suddenly they're operating a colossal mech called Dancouga Nova that intervenes in conflicts around the world, always siding with whoever's losing. The twist is that even the pilots don't fully understand why the robot exists or what it's really for. It's 2104, global wars have been replaced by constant smaller ones, and Dancouga Nova keeps showing up like some kind of mechanical guardian nobody summoned. The mystery of its purpose hangs over the whole show. Directed by Masami Obari, who has a very specific and recognizable style when it comes to mecha design, so if you've seen his work on Super Beast Machine God Dancouga, you'll notice the visual DNA immediately. The team dynamic is genuinely fun to watch. these people have zero business being in the same room together, let alone the same cockpit. If you enjoyed Gravion or Aquarion and want something with a similarly eclectic crew and some real intrigue underneath the robot fights, this 12-episode run is worth your time.

deadend★★★★☆EP 12Final episode. Most of the mysteries are resolved, though I still think the group dynamics could’ve been handled better. The pacing was decent overall, but the animation felt a little shaky at times.
roselle★★★★★EP 12finale and it sticks the landing everything the crew went through. if you made it this far the payoff is real. watch it then go check out the original dancougar series i know you hook on this anime

roselle★★★★★EP 9something major happens on this episode the mech and the whole show shifts gears immediately the scale of everything just went up massively and you can feel it in every scene getting into end game and its fully delivering what this dont skip
roselle★★★★★EP 8character focused episode and the show uses the slower pace really well backstory gets explored and the crew starts feeling like real people rather than just pilots. emotionally hits different from the action heavy eps. dont skip this one it matters more than it looks fr.
roselle★★★★★EP 7okay this ep had me losing my mind hahahahah 😂 a mech vs mech done right with real stakes involved. one of the most exciting episodes of the whole run. absolutely no skipping i swear fr 🔥
roselle★★★★★EP 6this EP mystery threat shows up and nobody knows what they are dealing with hahahah the tension is real and the show starts revealing that things are bigger than they originally seemed
roselle★★★★★EP 5darker territory now and the show fully leans into it the emotional here hit harder than anywhere before and the crew dynamics get way more complex. not your typical action episode
roselle★★★★★EP 4something different happens on this episode with the mech here and the energy shifts completely the visual alone makes this one memorable i swear the crew is tested in ways they didnt expect. one of the more intense episodes. watch it carefully things are getting more complicated here
roselle★★★★★EP 3the crew gets thrown into a new mission and the stakes start feeling real hahahah the action picks up and dancougar nova gets to show off properly here and a good balance of character dynamics and mech combat dont skip fr
roselle★★★★★EP 2the real mech action kicks off here and it does not disappoint the combination sequence is everything classic super robot fans live for. the four pilots figuring out how to work together is chaotic and fun. watch it things are just getting started fr.
roselle★★★★★EP 1okay this 1 episode the four completely mismatched people get pulled into piloting this massive mysterious robot hahahahah great intro to watch fr
deadend★★★★☆EP 11Second-to-last episode. There was plenty of action, which I enjoyed, especially since the team still has almost no chemistry this late into the series. I also don't see the point of the journalist's role when that screen time could've been used to develop the team dynamic.
deadend★★★☆☆EP 10As I’ve said before, I just feel no emotion while watching this. It would’ve had so much more impact if the series had taken the time to make us care about Eida and her relationship with Johnny.
deadend★★★☆☆EP 9I feel the writing isn’t that strong. I can’t really connect with the characters or see them as a cohesive team, which is important given their objective. Because of that, a lot of the emotional impact falls flat for me.
deadend★★★★☆EP 8Best episode for me so far! It had great action while also showing the team dynamics. Seeing them interact, work together, and learn more about each other was great. It was a calmer episode but still kept the excitement going.
deadend★★★☆☆EP 7Must-watch episode! It really sets the tone for the anime’s main objective and introduces several intriguing plot mysteries. A very important episode that moves the story forward and keeps you invested.
deadend★★☆☆☆EP 6The first half was somewhat funny. Is this the episode of love or something? Johnny’s whole thing felt forced and rushed, like it was added just for the sake of it. Overall, the episode was quite boring, except for the ending.
