The flashback with young Toboso squeezing into the citrus crate only for the Master to say customers want a handsome man not a child. That stung. Then Hitsugi losing his spot at twenty-five. Two brothers discarded by the same cruel boss and neither of them ever properly dealt with it.

The animation is rough no doubt about it. Some shots barely moved. But you know what I stopped caring about that halfway through because Toboso kneeling in that blood with his dead brother and Iwamoto just standing there giving him space was devastating. The words carried this whole thing.

So Hitsugi was killing people all along and carrying them around in that box. The reveal felt more tragic than shocking honestly. The moment Toboso tried to take the blame and become the Box Man himself broke something in me. Easily the series' best writing.
