Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? II

2015 was certainly an interesting year. The SCOTUS legalized gay marriage, Subway's Jared got exposed for being a pedophile, and DanMachi was about dungeons. Now, in 2019, DanMachi is not about dungeons. DanMachi is now about fanservice and whatever happened in the first four episodes. The first arc of this season is unbelievably bad. The main antagonist of the arc decides that he wants Bell for himself and challenges our protagonists to a War Game. Ignoring the comically stupid motivations of the main antagonist, this almost sounds cool, doesn't it? Except there are three episodes of setup and one episode of War Game. Fantastic! In reality, however, the terrible pacing is a blessing in disguise, as episode four is far worse than the first three episodes. In the War Game, Hestia's familia has 5 combatants, while Apollo has like 100+. But hey, who cares! Everyone in Hestia's familia can take on dozens of Apollo's fighters singlehandedly. This might make sense for Ryu, who is a much higher level adventurer than everyone else. What doesn't make sense is Welf and Mikoto being able to beat dozens of adventurers of the same level as them with literally one attack. "Oh, but Mikoto has an OP spell! Oh, but Welf has an OP magic sword!" One of the worst things a show can do is contradict its own world-building. Why were we told so much about adventurer levels only for them to get defenestrated in this episode? That's not even the worst part of what is certainly one of the worst anime episodes ever created. The worst part comes in when Bell fights Apollo's commander. That guy beat Bell to a pulp with his bare hands a couple of episodes ago, but now, Bell can beat him easily. Why? He trained pretty much offscreen for a couple of episodes! That makes him comically OP! So comically OP, in fact, that he literally beat the guy with a kick and a punch. This juvenile writing should be insulting to any fan of the first season. After those four atrocious episodes, we get two fanservice eps in a row. Unlike the creators of KonoSuba, however, the people responsible expect you to take this season seriously. Episode 5 is slice of life with a bath scene. Episode 6 is Bell hanging out with a bunch of prostitutes. Fun! I don't have a problem with fanservice in itself; but when there is no substance whatsoever behind the fanservice, that's annoying. I remember when Bell was fighting a minotaur in season one. Can we bring that back? That was pretty cool. From protagonists becoming comically OP despite doing nothing to deserve it, to the absurd ratio of "plot" to plot, this season feels like some 12-year-old's power trip. If you want to see female anime characters get objectified, go watch HDxD or something. There are plenty of way better fanservice shows. If you want good fight scenes, you won't find them here, because the animators seem to give up on animating every other fight scene. As such, there is literally nothing redeeming here, unless you like bad fight scenes and mediocre fanservice. J.C.Staff already ruined DAL and Index, and here's the latest victim of their never-ending spree of destroying beloved franchises.

Ah, what a heartwarming way to end the season. Hestia's almost obsessive love for Bell has been used as a comedic trigger most of the time but this episode reminds us that Hestia is genuinely in love with him, as expected from the goddess of the hearth.

A cool down episode with more of a comedic tension instead of a real conflict, some deeper lore into Orario and Dungeon past as well but the main attraction would be Miach speech regarding a god and mortal relationship, those were some deep stuff man.

Peak shounen energy, Bell Cranel experienced yet another growth spurt not just as an adventurer but also a single man who wishes to be a true hero. A satisfying closure with hints of upcoming conflict in the future, what an episode!

Oh man, the feels when Haruhime revealed to Mikoto why she does not wish to be saved is painful and heartbreaking. Such a pure girl forced to earn her keep with the hard way and even then her so called famila is about to abandon her. Mikoto MVP.

The main conflict unfolds as Bell and Mikoto finally discover what is Ishtar Familia intend to do with Haruhime. That scene with Phyrne was really uncomfortable, they did a great job to show that it's not all about adventure and friendship lurks in Orario darker side.

Plenty of comedic moments at the start but the later half is where tension starts to pick up, more and more stuff regarding Haruhime and the mysterious Ishtar familia getting revealed. Can't wait to see what kind of trouble Hestia familia getting into.

A unique take from a rarely seen side of Orario, forcing Bell and co to navigate the lust and danger filled labyrinth, nicely paced and engaging new characters introduced. Poor Hermes, but overall a really nice episode.

A cool off episode filled with plenty of funny yet heartwarming moments before transitioning to the next arc. Hestia family is a newly formed but the members inside has that feel of having at each other side for years. Pretty nice stuff.

This is why I love DanMachi. Bell got all the usual protagonist perks, but it didn't stop everyone else earning theur hype moments. Solid teamwork and cunning strategy, superb writing and pacing. Down with the Sun!

After Apollo familia, we got a peek into Soma's familia dynamics which only made it clearer that not all familia in Oriario is as delightful as Hestia's and co familia. Honestly a massive character development for Lili as well, I love seeing her finally made a leap of faith and actually fight for her own wish this time.

Unfair and unreasonable, that's just how gods and goddesess are in this world and Apollo is the example of it's extreme because Imagine involving the whole damn city, throwing explosions left and right just because you're thirst for some boy booty.

Unfortunately for Bell, it seems his charms tend to overflows and doesn't just attract girls around him but also men like Apollo. The pace of the transition from season one is seamless and new conflict is abound right from the first episode, execellent writing!

Siento que fue un muy buen capitulo final mostrándonos todo el aprecio que tienen los Dioses por sus hijos sin importar nada y por fin Bell entiende bien esos sentimientos

Siento que fue un muy buen capitulo donde nos muestra lo que paso con Haruhime, y vemos como es el dios de otro reino lo cual tiene una personalidad bastante divertida

Fue un gran episodio con una muy buena animación de pelea, también nos mostraron el gran poder que tiene Freya, fue un muy buen desenlace de la pelea

Siento que fue un gran episodio con mucha acción y drama, y deja con mucha tensión esperando que podría pasar al final

Vemos por fin el plan que tienen las amazonas con Haruhime y lo que piensan hacer, lo que deja a Bell sin saber que hacer para salvarla, lo cual deja con tensión a los espectadores

Fue un gran capitulo donde nos muestran que poder tienen los nuevos enemigos a los que tienen que enfrentar y lo complicado que se van a poner las cosas

Por fin vemos cual será el nuevo objetivo de Bell y lo difícil que será lograrlo pero nos deja con muchas ganas de ver mas
