EPISODE REVIEWS

Takumi Fujiwara: An unbothered king when racing for himself, but not quite when you mess with friends he cares about… The way this ep weaves a lighthearted date scene to a shift in shocking stakes that forces Takumi’s hand is BRILLIANT direction. Shingo is diabolical😱

Episode Context

Sitting at the exact midpoint of First Stage's 26-episode run, this episode follows the heated confrontation in Episode 12 where Shingo Shoji threw down a dangerous challenge to the Akina Speed Stars, raising the stakes beyond typical rivalry. 'First Date' deliberately pulls back from the racing action to develop character relationships, particularly Itsuki's, while keeping Shingo's antagonism simmering in the background. This interlude bridges the personal and competitive threads, layering emotional investment before the inevitable high-speed confrontations that dominate the season's back half.
