Synopsis
Once a skilled detective, Akihito Narihisago now sits in a prison cell because he murdered the man who killed his daughter. Now the police need him back, not on the streets, but inside the minds of serial killers. The Mizuhanome System lets investigators dive into virtual worlds built from a criminal's unconscious psyche, called 'id wells,' and Narihisago is one of the few people who can navigate them. Each time he enters, he wakes up as 'Sakaido,' with no memory of who he is, surrounded by the twisted architecture of a killer's mind, and he has to piece together what happened before he can identify the culprit in the real world. The first case involves a murderer called the Perforator, who drills holes into victims' skulls, and it only gets more layered from there. This is a 13-episode original TV series from 2020 by Studio NAZ, and it does a lot with that runtime; the mystery keeps folding in on itself as the psychological stakes for Narihisago get more personal. The tone is dark, cerebral, and genuinely unsettling in places, with real moral weight behind its sci-fi premise. If you liked the dystopian crime-solving atmosphere of Psycho-Pass or the mind-diving investigations in Himitsu – Top Secret, this hits a similar nerve but with its own distinct structure. It also shares some of that gritty, high-concept energy you'd find in Gantz, minus the gore-for-gore's-sake approach. Worth your time if you want mystery that actually makes you think.

Psychonauts but exploring the minds of various serial killers.
A devastating gut-punch of an episode.
A well-paced episode where Narihisago gives into his worst impulse and drives a serial killer to suicide.
It's a bit weird that someone could survive trepanning like that. I am intrigued about John Walker being a maker of serial killers.
A strange but intriguing start to the show! I like the concept of delving into a criminal's mind to solve the case and the pacing is really good. I look forward to seeing how the mystery unravels.
Finally, everything is coming together in this episode! Their MO, the wells, and John Walker—it was all right there! I've been waiting so long for this moment and I don't want it to end 😯
the series had its ups and downs, but I found the nice moments to be the most engaging. the supernatural stuff were somewhat disappointing, kind of a downer to ruin the sci-fi setting, yet I suppose it all came together in the finale.
This episode goes for style rather than insight. However, based on the direction, Also, in the post-credit scene, the machine is quite snug around the chase, which is very helpful information; now I can visualize that he has large breasts.
For a change, this episode is quite simple! Either we’re closing in on the final conclusion. The mystery element has been done well in the show.
Absolutely amazing episode, enjoyed every moment of it. BGot me emotional, the insert song was great. The insert of OST proved to be quite effective, along with a nice plot twists, and some questions have been answered.
That battle was incredible. Awesome moves, but wow, that was savage! It's the most intense anime episode I've ever seen. It was overly realistic in numerous ways, man. Narihisago's trauma was portrayed brilliantly as well.
The bond between Sakaido and Anaido was the standout moment of the episode. The pacing of this show is perfect, any quicker and it would be really hard to keep up. You can really tell the studio took their time weeding out the unnecessary scenes and dialogues.
This was the finest episode by far. I truly liked the pacing of this, but unfortunately, it seemed to end so quickly. Also, a well inside a well, intriguing.
That conversation was harsh for Honodomachi, and thatamazing shot illustrating how the hole-drilling event might have transformed her. We gained a lot from the episode and are even more intrigued to discover what comes next.
This show is genuinely stupid, overshadowed by the great music and the intriguing first moments of the whole show. I enjoy mystery series, but the show's way of trying to force twists
Every episode passes swiftly since I’m that enthralled in the story. The voice actors are quite good as well. The mystery was quite captivating. The soundtrack was incredible, especially that Samurai track. I hope nothing happens to Hondomachi.
This was an incredible episode. Loved the mystery and the way the series allows our characters to simply talk clearly shows Aoki's confidence in his writers. I enjoyed the psychological devastation Sakaido inflicts on him.
The visuals at the start of the episode, damn, stunning. Though in general they've been on point. Gonna miss this show honestly, it's been a thrilling ride from start to finish. Glad I watched it. The final confrontation of the brillant detectives, stunningly done
It's interesting that they can allow a person to enter a world that only someone with a active intent to kill can access by utilizing a man who is actively suicidal. it's a very unique dynamic.
Fascinating concept and a good start. It appears they are resolving cases by exploring the criminal's consciouness, which is quiteinteresting. The soundtrack played during Sakaido's world merging was impressive. Looking forward to it much more.
