Hyakushou Kizoku 4th Season
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Growing up on a dairy farm in Hokkaido, Fullmetal Alchemist creator Hiromu Arakawa eventually did what any great storyteller would — she made a manga about it. Hyakushou Kizoku is her autobiographical comedy about the gap between her life as a farmer and her career as one of the most famous manga artists in Japan. This fourth season continues that setup, and honestly, the charm hasn't worn off. The premise is simple: Arakawa draws herself as a stocky, no-nonsense farm woman dealing with livestock, crops, harsh winters, and the general absurdity of rural life. There's no overarching plot — it's slice-of-life in the truest sense, built on short comedic sketches about things like cows being difficult, neighbors being eccentric, and the culture shock of moving between a Hokkaido farm and a Tokyo publishing office. The humor is dry and grounded, coming from real experiences rather than anime gags. If you liked Silver Spoon (which Arakawa also created, so the DNA is obvious), or if Barakamon's rural comedy vibes clicked with you, this is in that same lane. It also shares a bit of Moyashimon's fascination with the weird realities of agricultural work, just told through a more personal lens. It's a quiet, funny show that works best when you want something low-stakes and genuine. No dramatic twists, no stakes — just a farmer who also happens to draw manga, and the comedy that naturally follows.
