Houkago Initiation
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Two short stories, two messy high school situations — and both of them play it dangerous. Houkago Initiation is a two-episode OVA from 2016, adapted from Arai Kei's manga, and it splits its runtime between a pair of distinct narratives that both orbit the same general territory: desire, awkward power dynamics, and relationships that don't fit neatly into any comfortable category. The first episode drops you into a childhood friendship triangle — Konomi and twin brothers Kei and Yuu — where the history between them makes everything complicated in exactly the ways you'd expect. The second follows Kaname, a nervous, inexperienced guy who gets summoned by the student council president and walks into a situation he absolutely did not anticipate. Both stories lean into that charged, tension-heavy atmosphere where nobody is quite saying what they mean. If you've explored titles like Shoujo Sect: Innocent Lovers and appreciated stories built around intimate relationship dynamics rather than conventional romance beats, this occupies similar space. It's not trying to be a slow burn character study — it moves quickly and keeps things focused on the interpersonal friction that makes each setup interesting. At only two episodes, the commitment is low, and each story is self-contained, so there's no continuity to track. It does exactly what it sets out to do within a very specific genre lane, so go in knowing what that lane is.
