Hotaru no Yomeiri: Choitashi
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Satoko Kirigaya is a frail Meiji-era noblewoman with a bodyguard who worries too much. Hotaru no Yomeiri: Choitashi is a chibi ONA side story to Firefly Wedding, and it skips the parent show’s dangerous romance plot for roughly one-minute comedy vignettes. In episode 1, Satoko and her earnest childhood friend Koutarou head into town, where his overprepared health concerns and their flustered reaction to him carrying her home turn basic protection into an awkward romantic misunderstanding. Episode 2 moves to an inn with the devoted assassin Shinpei, contrasting his sweet attentiveness with the unsettling intensity underneath. That’s the appeal: cute super-deformed art softening possessive crushes, while the characters’ attempts to care for Satoko keep getting comically complicated. It’s less a standalone story and more a set of extra off-camera moments for fans of the main series. If you liked the historical romance tension of My Happy Marriage, the courtly detail and sly comedy of The Apothecary Diaries, or the dangerous-devotion dynamic of Love of Kill, this short format gives you those flavors in quick gag form. Watch it after an episode of the main anime when you want the same cast, lower stakes, and a lot of flustered bodyguard energy.
