Fox Spirit Matchmaker 13th Season
Oshimeter
Synopsis
In a world where humans and fox spirits have been falling in love (and getting their hearts broken) for centuries, there's a whole system built around helping reincarnated lovers find each other again. Tushan Susu is a fox spirit matchmaker who's honestly not great at her job yet, and Bai Yuechu is a Taoist with serious power and a complicated past tied to these very same spirits. This 13th season, the Huang Feng Ling arc, drops them into a region where old grudges between humans and spirits run deep enough to threaten a couple trying to reconnect across lifetimes. The first couple episodes set up the tension nicely; there's a real sense that this particular reconciliation could go sideways in ways previous ones haven't. The vibe is comedic and romantic at its core, but the historical setting and Taoist-inspired power system give it weight. The animation leans into traditional Chinese art in a way that feels genuinely distinct from the usual anime aesthetic, and the soundtrack uses traditional instruments that actually complement the storytelling instead of just being background noise. This is a 16-episode ONA from studio Ke Yue Xue Zi, adapted from the manga. If you've been watching Tian Guan Ci Fu or Enmusubi no Youko-chan and want more Chinese mythology-driven romance with real stakes, this arc delivers. If you're new to the franchise, the self-contained arc structure means you can follow along, though longtime fans will get more out of the character dynamics.
