FLAMING DODGEBALL GIRL DANKO HAS NO VOTE THIS WEEK
Synopsis
Her father was a dodgeball legend, but that was then. Was. Past tense. Now dodgeball is basically dead at her school: the club got disbanded, nobody cares, and the gym probably smells like dust. But Danko isn't the type to let her father's legacy just rot, so she drags her childhood friend Chinko into a mission to rebuild the team from scratch. The problem is finding people who actually want to play dodgeball in an era where, well, nobody really does. This is a sports anime about dodgeball, which already makes it one of the more unusual picks out there. The sport itself lends itself to chaotic, fast-paced matches that feel genuinely different from what you've seen in volleyball or basketball shows. Studio Cue brings a lot of energy to the animation, and the comedic tone keeps things from getting too heavy even when Danko's hitting walls trying to recruit reluctant classmates. The heart of it is generational: a daughter trying to honor what her father built, filtered through the messy reality of being a kid who has to convince other kids to care about something they've written off. It's got that underdog-team-building DNA you'd recognize if you liked Haikyuu or Kuroko no Basket, but the sport choice and the lighter comedic vibe give it its own lane. If Yowamushi Pedal hooked you by making cycling compelling, this does the same thing for dodgeball.

That spider bot injecting Honey straight in the leg is genuinely one of the most unhinged things I've seen in a sports anime. The show is calling it athletic support but we all know what those spider amps actually are. Anyway Hako shielding everyone with her stretchy body was the real MVP moment
The Chinko name flashback hit me harder than a skull ball to the face. Her dad was so proud and just kept yelling her embarrassing name in public without realizing it. Danko hugging her and saying the name means love made me emotional. Also the chibi bonus segment explaining the original Black Armors was good lore
Honey getting spider juice shot into her thigh then turning into a full mech was the wildest thing this show has done and that's saying a lot. The Getter Robo comparisons are so on point. Also the referee ripping off his suit to reveal that outfit had me wheezing
Kira revealing everyone's private secrets was brutal but the show handled Hako and Hayami getting wrecked by their insecurities way better than I expected. Then Chinko's whole name backstory with her dad screaming CHINKO in class made me laugh and tear up at the same time
The Mochiko flashback wrecked me. Girl gets her desk spray painted and her lunch stolen and she just smiles and shares food with everyone. Then Suzy channels all that warmth into throwing dodgeballs hard enough to launch a whole team into the bleachers. This show is insane
Mochiko going into the lava with that gentle smile while her friends screamed was brutal. This show was silly one week ago and now it's killing characters on a floating platform over molten rock. Genuinely shook
Chinko pulling off Satsuki's move after seeing it once proves she is technically the best player on this court and honestly if she could just control her temper it would be over for everyone
The Tosa Attackers looking straight out of a 90s CoroCoro page was perfection. You can tell the character designer had a blast bringing that classic aesthetic into 2025
How are thousands of screaming punks in a massive colosseum watching a tournament that is supposed to be super secret. I love how stupidly high stakes old school dodgeball gets
I lost my mind when Hani used her little bee drone to snatch the spats right out of Peiko hands during the flag race
Danpei throwing a dodgeball to stop a whole falling kindergarten van was the most ridiculous thing ever and I loved every second of it
The way the rain stopped when Danko got that fire in her eye was such a cool visual and the power coming off her as she stood back up was intense
Peiko is becoming the best character since she actually cares about the legacy of their dads, and that Tsunami Shot was absolutely brutal to watch in the rain
That needle scene with Moa caught me off guard because I thought this was just a sports show and her body glowing purple was actually kind of scary
That dark dodge training flashback was so good and I cannot believe Honey actually pulled off that double elimination at the end
Watching Chinko stand her ground against that massive maid was so cool, and it really felt like the team actually started becoming a real squad today
Peiko snatching that grape soda and taking a sip was absolutely bizarre and reflects her chaotic energy
I am actually obsessed with how young Danko's grandma looks and those physics in the swimming pool scene were definitely noticeable and this show is easily the most fun thing airing right now
Likes anime and Mangá
I still cannot believe that one girl is literally named Chinko and she just says it out loud with zero shame in front of the principal
