Honkai: Star Rail - Improv Tour Trailers
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When the Penacony crew — Sparkle, Aventurine, Black Swan, and the rest — walk into what's essentially an improv comedy show, nobody is taking it seriously, least of all the animators. That's the entire premise of these Honkai: Star Rail promotional shorts, and honestly, it works way better than it has any right to. Instead of saving the galaxy or fighting cosmic horrors, these characters are just bouncing off each other in low-stakes, chaotic sketches full of meta-humor, 4th-wall breaks, and deep-cut community jokes that'll hit different if you've spent any time in the HSR fandom. The whole thing is rendered in this really fluid 2D animation style that looks nothing like the game's usual 3D aesthetic, which gives it its own distinct identity. It's characters you already like, freed from plot obligations, just being their most exaggerated selves in a consequence-free sandbox. If you liked Fate/Grand Carnival turning the Fate cast into comedy fodder, or how Isekai Quartet just threw a bunch of characters together and let chaos happen, this hits a similar nerve. There's also some Holo no Graffiti energy in how it leans into short-form absurdity and fandom-specific humor. You don't strictly need to play Star Rail to follow along, but knowing the characters makes the gags land harder. It's a fun, breezy watch — just vibes and bit comedy with surprisingly good animation behind it.
