It really got to me when Rika was standing by her old dog's grave, and finally acknowledged Mayama being there. He is definitely overstepping by forcing her back home, but it seems like the only way she was going to face her past instead of just fading away in that grayscale world she was living in. Seeing the color return was beautiful.
