Exploiting your patients tends to kill the referral business — which is why Dr. Fuwa's medical practice is basically down to just his nurse Megumi. Then he gets called out to a remote island convent to investigate a mysterious illness spreading through a group of young nuns-in-training, all three of them named Maria. Classic setup for a guy like him to cause more problems than he solves. This 2-episode OVA from 2001 leans into the isolated, atmospheric convent setting pretty effectively — there's a genuine mystery threading through the adult content, which gives it slightly more structure than most entries in the genre. The three Maria characters each have distinct personalities, and the show actually takes a little time developing that before things go where you'd expect them to go. It's not deep, but it's not brainless either. If you've watched Night Shift Nurses and liked the professional-setting framing device, or if Bible Black's religious atmosphere did something for you, Tres Marias works a similar angle. It's grounded in one contained location with a small cast, which keeps it focused rather than scattered. For a 2001 OVA, the production holds up reasonably well. Don't go in expecting a slow-burn thriller — but if you want something with a bit of narrative scaffolding holding the hentai content together, this scratches that itch.
