A bit of a slow start; establishing the foundations for future characters and conflict, leaving you wondering about the new Asaemon. Meanwhile we’re treated to a decent spectacle between two characters with solid animation while the character interactions are decent.

Episode Context

As the Season 2 premiere, 'Dawn and Confusion' picks up directly from the first season's harrowing exploration of Shinsenkyo, where Gabimaru and the surviving criminals and executioners began unraveling the island's supernatural horrors. This episode expands the playing field by introducing reinforcements from the mainland while escalating existing conflicts, establishing the dual-front tension that will likely define the early stretch of this 12-episode season. It's a table-setting episode that still delivers action, positioning new and returning characters for the deeper power struggles ahead.
