Synopsis
You'd be hard-pressed to find a more average salaryman than Saeki, with his steady job, steady routine, and a steady girlfriend who's been patiently waiting three years for a ring. Their life together is comfortable, maybe too comfortable, and that's exactly the crack that something predatory slithers through. Two figures, symbolically tied to a snake and a spider, work their way into the couple's life, and you can feel the net tightening from the very first scene. The girlfriend wants marriage and stability. These two want to dismantle that completely. Directed by Toshihiro Watase, who has a real knack for mixing psychological tension with the kind of content Studio SHION is known for, Hebi to Kumo leans hard into the animal symbolism: the snake as seduction, the spider as entrapment, and uses it to frame a story about how easily trust can unravel when the right pressure is applied. The production quality is sharp, which you'd expect from SHION's 2026 lineup, and the source manga gives it a solid foundation to work from. If you've watched Kanojo Face The Animation and wanted something with a bit more psychological weight, or if NTR: Netsuzou Trap's relationship dynamics were your thing but you wanted darker stakes, this fits that niche well. The way the snake transformation looked so gross and painful was actually a pretty cool choice, most shows make that stuff look way too clean
Saki actually trying to keep it professional while Misaki is right there was too much and that office tension is already really high
I felt so stressed when they almost got caught in the breakroom and I need them to be careful
Misaki is clearly the one in control, and seeing Saki scramble to follow her lead makes their dynamic so interesting to watch.
that final look misaki gave saki at the end of the episode was chilling and it feels like he has no idea what he just started
I keep thinking about the way the spider silk literally sliced through that stone pillar like it was paper
The blood splatters looked very stylized and gave off the feel of those old samurai movies with the crazy colors
The confrontation in the rain at the end felt like the perfect way to start the show
I thought the office setting would be boring but the way Saki looks at Misaki when she is not watching is everything to me
It felt a bit slow at the start but the action at the end made up for all the talking
I think the way the snake guy moved his arms during that first fight looked so creepy and cool
That final scene where the web covered the entire moon was such a cool visual to end the first episode on
Everything was way too dark and you could barely see what was happening when they were fighting in the forest
misaki is definitely hiding something and the music getting all distorted when saki finally lost his cool was a great touch
that scene in the alleyway was so intense and misaki looks like she is going to be trouble for his sanity
i felt so bad for saki when they showed his tiny paycheck and then seeing him just snap in that alley was actually kind of scary
i really did not like how he cornered his boss in that alley because it felt way too predatory for me to enjoy the romance part
saki living that broke life with his girlfriend while dreaming of his boss is such a messy setup and it creates so much immediate drama
saki sweating over his bills made the whole thing with his boss feel way more desperate and dark
