📖 SYNOPSIS

Money running out fast, home no longer an option, and nowhere to go, the only job available to the Sawatari sisters is working as live-in maids for a 14-year-old millionaire with way too much house and even more attitude. That's the setup for He is My Master, a 12-episode comedy from 2005 that leans hard into its ridiculous premise. Izumi and Mitsuki Sawatari figure cleaning a mansion beats going back to their parents — until they meet Yoshitaka Nakabayashi, their new employer, who immediately insists on being called 'Master' and treats maid uniforms as his personal art project. The whole show lives in that dynamic: two sisters trying to hold onto their dignity while their boss finds new ways to be insufferable, and somehow the result is more funny than frustrating. The tone is light and comedic throughout, with recurring gags and a cast of eccentrics who keep the energy moving. It's worth noting that Gainax and Shaft co-produced this, which is an unusual pairing that gives it a slightly distinct visual personality compared to standard mid-2000s fare. If you enjoyed the chaotic maid-employer humor in Kamen no Maid Guy, or the mansion comedy antics of Hayate no Gotoku, this covers similar ground with its own brand of absurdity. The ecchi elements are present but the show's main currency is comedic timing rather than anything serious. A decent watch if you want something low-stakes and genuinely amusing from that era.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You're okay with a protagonist who's shameless, perverted, and fully leans into it
Mid-2000s Gainax and Shaft comedy with maid-themed slapstick is exactly your vibe
You want a breezy 12-episode watch with no overarching plot to keep track of
Absurd power-dynamic humor between a teenage millionaire and his runaway maid sisters works for you

❌ SKIP IF...

You want character growth — these 12 episodes don't develop anyone meaningfully
Episodic fanservice without a central story thread will bore you fast
The master-maid dynamic here leans domineering, and that framing won't sit right with you
