Episode Context

As the series opener of a 52-episode run, this episode carries the full weight of establishment, introducing the central cast, the comedic ruleset, and the unlikely bond between Hayate and Nagi that drives the entire season. There are no prior episodes to build on; everything here is a first impression. What it sets up is substantial: the misunderstanding at the heart of Hayate and Nagi's relationship is the engine that powers the episodes ahead, and the dynamic between all three leads introduced here will only grow more layered as the season progresses.
