Synopsis
Sword in hand and patience for propriety firmly exhausted, heiress Kurenai Mitanosuke dresses as a samurai and does exactly what she'd much rather be doing than sitting around being proper — swinging a blade. The problem is that powerful forces in the Genroku era want her dead, her two bodyguards Kaki and Suki are more of a threat to her dignity than to her enemies, and somewhere in the shadows a mysterious one-eyed shinobi is quietly keeping her alive without her even knowing it. That setup alone has the bones of a solid historical action-comedy. The fact that it's based on a Go Nagai manga — the guy who essentially invented provocative manga before anyone had a rulebook to break — tells you everything about where it's headed. This is a one-episode OVA that leans hard into the blend of Edo-period aesthetics, slapstick bodyguard dynamics, and adult content that defined a certain era of late-night anime releases. If you've seen something like La Blue Girl or Fencer of Minerva and you're curious about how that genre handles historical settings specifically, this fits right into that niche. It's not trying to be subtle about what it is. The samurai trappings are genuine enough to give it atmosphere, and the comedy lands better than you might expect from something this short. Go in knowing what you're signing up for and it delivers on its own terms.
