Synopsis
Imagine juggling three timelines at once: a blood-soaked train ride across 1930s America, a gang war erupting in Prohibition-era New York, and a group of alchemists on an 18th-century ship learning they probably shouldn't have asked for immortality. Baccano is a 13-episode TV series that throws all of these at you simultaneously and trusts you to keep up. The non-linear structure sounds confusing, but it's actually what makes it click: every episode connects dots you didn't even know were there, and by the end the whole puzzle locks together in a way that's genuinely satisfying. The cast is enormous, but standouts like the lovably unhinged thief duo Isaac and Miria, the young Camorra member Firo, and the terrifyingly calm Rail Tracer keep things grounded in personality rather than plot mechanics. Brain's Base nailed the 1930s atmosphere, and the jazz-heavy soundtrack does a lot of the heavy lifting there. The tone sits somewhere between brutal mob violence and absurd comedy, often in the same scene. If you liked the sprawling ensemble chaos of Durarara!!, same author, by the way, this is where it started. Fans of Cowboy Bebop's genre-blending coolness or Black Lagoon's violent energy will find a lot to like here too. Fair warning: the first couple episodes demand patience while the timelines establish themselves, but once it clicks, it really clicks.

This episode takes an exciting turning point! The Rail tracer taking the spotlight and he is terrifying! The violence is brutal and sudden, yet it balances out with Isaac and Mira's comedic moments. The scenes are well-made but some character's POV still a little bit confusing.
The intro jazz music VS outro ballad, what a contrast! Fanfare vs Requeim? Something about Kaori Oda's singing, it's so hauntingly beautiful

Make sure you're paying attention and definitely make sure you paid your ticket fare because this train moves fast! Baccano is a tale of gangsters and family, not necessarily in that order, with everything you need. Immortals, shootouts, a very creepy train monster, romance, and two burglars who are guaranteed to steal your heart. Mature audiences only. Blood and gore are present.
The finale wrapped everything up so nicely 🎉 The party at the end with everyone gathered was so wholesome. Isaac and Miria being celebrated by everyone is beautiful. That quiet moment between two specific characters was sweet. The reveal at the end made total sense.
The pieces are coming together 🧩 That quiet character's connection with Firo is sweet despite everything. The Gandor brothers being caught in the crossfire had me stressed. The atmosphere in the city at night is so stylish. The buildup to whatever is coming is perfect.
Chané finally getting more focus 🔥 Her way of communicating through actions is so well animated. The flashbacks to her past were beautifully done. The fight scene was incredible. Two broken characters finding something in each other was weirdly beautiful. She's quickly becoming
That kid finally showing more of his personality 😨 The fear in his eyes felt real. Ladd not caring about death at all is his whole vibe. The cat and mouse game between them was so tense. The animation during the chase was smooth. This show balances horror and comedy so well.
Claire's introduction was everything 🔥 The way he moves and fights is mesmerizing. His confidence is off the charts. The roof scenes were animated so cleanly. His dynamic with that silent character is intriguing. This guy seems built different.
Isaac wanting to politely ask the monster to leave is the most Isaac thing ever 😂 The slideshow of their robbery costumes was hilarious. The way these two bounce off each other is comedy gold. Their optimism in a dark situation is refreshing. Love this chaotic duo.
Full flashback episode to 1711 and it was fascinating ⛵ The summoning scene was so atmospheric. The concept of immortality and how it works here is interesting. The music during the ship scenes was beautiful. Watching the characters interact in the past adds so much depth.
The creature on the train is genuinely creepy 😰 The way it moves and appears is nightmare fuel. That one character acting cute but clearly hiding something is suspicious. The blood in that freight hold was brutal. The lighting during those dark scenes was really well done.
Jacuzzi crying while being threatening is such a weird but compelling combo 😭 The flashbacks explaining his crew's situation were heavy. Nice's little trick was cool to watch. The atmosphere on the train keeps getting more tense. The voice acting for Jacuzzi is really good.
Ladd is absolutely terrifying and hilarious at the same time 😨 His way of talking about things is chilling. The conflict on the train is heating up. This guy seems nuts. The tension in the dining car was palpable. The animation style during action scenes is so fluid.
The timeline jumping is wild but I'm starting to piece things together 🧩 Eve searching for her missing brother has me curious. Firo getting a new gift from Maiza felt significant. Randy's fire trick was cool. Also something weird happening with a dead animal??
The Flying Pussyfoot finally departs and the atmosphere is tense 🚂 The Rail Tracer legend sounds creepy. Isaac and Miria mining for gold in a hole is peak comedy. Ladd Russo's introduction gave me chills—dude seems unhinged. The old woman's bad feeling is ominous.
The opening fight scene had me hooked immediately 🔥 The 1930s jazz vibe is immaculate. The timeline jumping is confusing at first but in a fun way. Isaac and Miria seem like they're gonna be chaotic. This show has a wild energy to it.
