Episode 4 is a step forward for the show's emotional core, even if the Returner subplot feels like wasted potential. The counseling scene delivers the character development that the first three episodes were building toward, and the reveal about Ryusei's past gives the comedy a foundation of genuine tragedy. The episode's biggest weakness is trying to do too much in 23 minutes—the Returner deserved either more time or no time at all. But the scenes that matter land, and the show is finally starting to feel like it has a plan.
