Haai! Myakumyaku desu
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Imagine a blob creature that's been alive for 3.5 billion years suddenly moving in with a lazy middle-aged guy. That's the setup for Haai! Myakumyaku desu, and honestly, the dynamic just works. Myakumyaku has apparently spent eons wanting to talk to someone about life, the future, big existential stuff — and the person he ends up with couldn't care less. The guy just wants to be left alone. But Myakumyaku keeps bringing up things like environmental issues and food waste in the most casual, roundabout way, and slowly the old man starts actually thinking about this stuff despite himself. It's a comedy, but there's a gentle nudge underneath it all that doesn't feel preachy. Each episode runs about two minutes, so the whole 8-episode TV series is shorter than most YouTube videos you'd watch on a lunch break. Fanworks produced it, and they've got a knack for this kind of short-form animation — tight, expressive, and surprisingly warm for how brief it is. The vibe sits somewhere between the cozy everyday slice-of-life feel of Everyday Host and the mascot-driven charm of Monpoké, but with a slightly more grounded sense of humor. If you liked the oddball cohabitation comedy of something like Shinobanai! Crypto Ninja Sakuya, this scratches a similar itch. It's low commitment, genuinely funny in spots, and weirdly endearing for something so small.
