Guilty Gear Strive: Dual Rulers
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Long before the events of the series, the world turned its back on science in favor of magic, built biological weapons called Gears, and then those Gears fought back in a war so devastating that decades later, nobody's really moved on. That's the world Sin Kiske was born into — half-human, half-Gear, the living proof that maybe the two sides don't have to keep hating each other. The 8-episode TV series kicks off with his parents' wedding, a politically charged union between a human king and a Gear. Things go sideways when a mysterious girl named Unika crashes the ceremony with a very personal grudge against Gears, and Sin ends up chasing after answers about who she is and why the wounds from the Crusades still run so deep. The show sits in that space between big flashy fights and genuine questions about whether people can actually forgive each other. Studio SANZIGEN does this cool fusion of 2D and 3D animation that gives the battle choreography a distinct punch — it feels like the game without just being cutscenes stitched together. If you liked the lore-heavy world-building of Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works or the post-apocalyptic tension in God Eater, this scratches a similar itch. BlazBlue: Alter Memory is the obvious comparison since it's also a fighting game adaptation, but Dual Rulers handles its source material with more confidence. At 8 episodes it doesn't overstay its welcome, and the pacing keeps things tight.
