Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Teenage love confessions dominate the anime romance landscape, with most stories centered on characters figuring out their feelings for the first time. This one's about a couple who already figured it out, sixty years ago. Shouzou and Ine Saitou are an elderly pair living quietly in the Aomori countryside, tending their apple orchard, getting visits from grandkids, and just genuinely enjoying each other's company. Then they find a golden apple on the tree they planted on their wedding day, eat it, and wake up looking like they're in their twenties again. The thing is, their personalities haven't changed at all. They're still the same wholesome, deeply-in-love old couple, just in young bodies now. So you get this lovely contrast where two people with decades of devotion are suddenly navigating the world looking like newlyweds, and the comedy writes itself. The countryside setting gives the whole thing a calm, pastoral quality that makes it genuinely relaxing to watch. It's only 11 episodes in this TV series, so it never overstays its welcome. If you enjoyed the low-key romantic warmth of something like Natsuyuki Rendezvous, or the offbeat charm of Ojisan to Marshmallow, this hits a similar sweet spot. And if you've been wanting anime that actually portrays love as something that deepens over time rather than ending at a confession scene, Grandpa and Grandma Turn Young Again is quietly one of the more refreshing romance picks from 2024.

Watching them rediscover life, go on dates, and act all shy again is ridiculously cute. You can’t help but smile the whole time.
I loved this anime so much that the ending really broke me. I loved this old couple so much and im happy they had a happy ending. Find yourself a guy like Shouzou!!!
The conclusion of this show was incredibly sweet and wholesome. I felt connected to the characters as they brought a warm and welcoming feeling of family. I wished the last episode might've had more to it than some of the filler. It was fairly simple. Still enjoyable though!
This episode felt pretty uneventful with filler. However, there were a couple of hilarious parts involving Shouta and Mino! The pair growing closer and experiencing awkward moments makes the scenes more relatable and entertaining.
This episode got DEEP 😭 Grandpa and Grandma's bond is truly unbreakable. I also really love Shiori and Satoshi's growing relationship, I just wish Shiori would open up more - there's only a couple of episodes left!
The unexpected "young" guests were an awesome surprise! I do wish they felt like more important characters, though. Their activities with Grandma and Grandpa were fun, but just kinda meaningless. Would love to see both couples try to learn about their hourglasses together.
Though Grandpa's older form takes over at an inconvenient time, it makes for a hilarious scenario during this high-stakes trip to the baths! It's cute to see both couples go through their own exciting, romantic moments. Also, what Grandpa wrote on the ema tablet was SO sweet.
The premise of this episode was fun, but it felt more like a mashup of quick, random, cute activities with no serious bonding moments. I'm happy Grandpa and Grandma took Mino and Shouta with them on this trip; they add a lot to the enjoyment!
It was really great to be able to witness this masterpiece. It has a bittersweet ending, but it also shows how the real world works. The story execution is damn good! 10/10. This shows that parents and grandparents are always think about us before themselves. SEASON 2 NEEDED 🤍✨
Grandpa was so sweet and patient with Grandma, even with the sudden, scary circumstances. Each flashback was very touching. Though part of me wishes there was a bit more conflict, high stakes, or Grandpa taking initiative that could've made me, as a viewer, more invested.
Damn that Helloween costume was really scary. Playful Grandparents are always the best, I really like how they supported Mino with her feelings for shouta. The pick-up truck's secret is amazing though, Though I don't know but I kinda guessed it 🗿. Excited for the final episode
It's really great that they're enjoying their youth again, but at the same time, it's sad to know what's going to happen to them 😞. I hope a miracle happens! This episode delivers an emotional rollercoaster. It makes me realize that you should live life to the fullest. Definitely great storytelling 🤍
This episode is the peak definition of wholesomeness. It really surprised me to be honest, there are other old couples who are turning young again besides Shozo and Ine. It's hilarious how both the Grandmas are competing to see which one of their husband is more amazing 😂. And the bond between Shiori and grandma Ine is adorable 🤍
Lots of touching moments between characters throughout this episode. Loved the unexpected ending, too. It'll be interesting to see the show take this new direction! I have really been hoping to see more chemistry between Grandma and Grandpa soon.
No wonder Grandma called Shozo pervy Grandpa 😂. They really had a great time on the beach, but Grandpa didn't get to see quite what he wanted so badly 😂. I'm kinda jealous of Shouta now 🗿, I wanna experience something like that too 🥲. It hands you with the ideal trip plan.
Grandpa and Grandma had an absolute blast in Tokyo. They became so charismatic that even a talent scout approached them 😂. I really love their character dynamics, their bond is unbreakable! I can totally relate to Shouta, I was just like him back in my highschool days 😂✨
This episode made me cry, how Grandpa and Grandma struggles throughout the years without their family helping them. They deserve so much love and happiness. A mother's love for her children is truly unimaginable ❤️. And it was funny how Grandma reacts to every electronic device😂
This episode starts off really fun with Grandpa and Grandma trying another activity together that's popular with younger people! It's very heartwarming to see their love for each other shine through any hardship. I loved watching even more of their backstory together, too!
The story execution is damn good funny, wholesome and is packed with emotional moments. The ending has me hooked and curious now 😮💨. Things are about to complicated, I hope grandpa can handle it. Grandma looks so adorable in the highschool uniform at the festival 😆.
Definitely a great story so far! I'm really curious about the hourglass and how it works, I've seen all kinds of romance anime but this one is one of the best in my list. This episode will make you realise that Immortality is not a Blessing but a curse. Grandma's backstory is sad
