I was only partially right. It's almost spring, and there's a rather late character introduction in this episode. She had already been appearing in previous episodes, so I had started to think that she wasn't going to be introduced at all throughout the anime. The featured food feels like cheating, considering it isn't even homemade but it does seem fitting for the kind of food the new character would normally eat. I pretty much get the message of this episode as well. It's about Ryo sharing how good it feels to have a meal with someone else, much like what she experienced in the first episode.
