Synopsis
With an iron fist, Emperor Vetti rules the galaxy, his new Holy Empire having swallowed it up whole. Standing against him is Michel, leader of the People's Army, a rebellion that's passionate but outgunned. Then Michel crosses paths with Cleo, the mysterious captain of the Glass Fleet — a legendary battleship that makes everything else in space look like a rowboat. The question becomes: can Michel convince this enigmatic loner to throw his lot in with the resistance? What makes Glass Fleet worth your time is the aesthetic. Gonzo and Satelight built a world that mashes Renaissance-era visual flair — think ornate costumes, aristocratic intrigue, palatial warships — into a full-on space opera. Character designs by artist Okama give everyone a distinct, almost theatrical look you won't mistake for anything else. The political layer underneath all the space battles is genuinely interesting, with power and legitimacy as real themes rather than window dressing. If you clicked on Legend of the Galactic Heroes or Space Battleship Yamato, the DNA here should feel familiar — fleets, empires, and ideological conflict at a galactic scale. It's a 24-episode TV series from 2006 with an original story, so there's no source material to spoil you before you start. It won't hold your hand with exposition dumps either — it just drops you into the conflict and trusts you to keep up.
