Synopsis

After dropping out of high school and moving to Tokyo, Nina Iseri is determined to prove she can make it on her own. That's already a rough starting point, and things don't exactly go smoothly from there. She's lonely, directionless, and struggling to find her footing in a city that doesn't care whether she sinks or swims. Then she crosses paths with Momoka Kawaragi, a guitarist she's admired from afar, and something clicks. They start a band together alongside three other girls — Subaru, Tomo, and Rupa — each carrying her own baggage. This movie is a two-part theatrical compilation of the Girls Band Cry series, condensing the story into a tighter emotional punch. What makes it work is how grounded everything feels. These aren't prodigies destined for stardom — they're messy, frustrated young women figuring out who they are, and the music becomes the thing that holds them together when everything else is falling apart. Toei Animation's production gives the performances real weight, and the soundtrack isn't just background noise; it actually lands. The drama here is genuine, not manufactured. If you liked the raw emotional energy of BanG Dream! Ave Mujica or the scrappy underdog spirit of On-Gaku: Our Sound, this hits a similar nerve. It's set in Kawasaki, it feels distinctly lived-in, and it doesn't sugarcoat the struggle. Just girls trying to make something real out of the chaos.
