Synopsis

In 1956 Tokyo, private detective Reiji Tokisaka still carries the weight of losing his fiancée to a serial killer six years ago. Then the murders start again — bodies turning up in ways that feel uncomfortably familiar — and his former police colleagues pull him back in. On top of that, a high school girl named Toko walks into his office with the strangest request he's ever heard: help me find my true self. He has no idea yet how those two things connect, but they do, and it goes somewhere genuinely unsettling. This 2-episode OVA is adapted from a visual novel, and it carries that DNA — lots of atmosphere, dense plotting, characters with histories that slowly surface. The post-war Tokyo setting gives everything a specific weight; it's a city still rebuilding, and the darkness in the story fits that mood. Fair warning: this has explicit content alongside its mystery elements, so it's not for everyone. But if you're into psychological mystery with real narrative depth, think Kara no Kyoukai or Monster — that kind of slow-burn where the horror is as much about what people carry inside them as anything external. Perfect Blue fans will also recognize that same queasy feeling of identity unraveling. It's dark, it's deliberately paced, and it doesn't clean things up neatly.
