Episode Context

Episode 101 launches the Shinsengumi Crisis Arc, a major turning point roughly halfway through the series' 201-episode run, pivoting away from the standalone comedy episodes that preceded it. Hijikata's cursed sword and Itou Kamotarou's reintroduction plant the seeds for escalating internal conflict within the Shinsengumi. The episodes that follow build directly on these threads, making this an essential starting point for one of Gintama's most acclaimed dramatic arcs.
