Ghost Sweeper Mikami Movie
Oshimeter
Synopsis
No exorcist in Tokyo is better than Reiko Mikami, and she will absolutely bleed you dry for it. In a 1990s Japan where urban development has displaced so many spirits that ghost-busting has become a legitimate industry, Mikami sits at the top — not because she's noble or heroic, but because she's ruthlessly competent and charges accordingly. She runs her agency with two assistants she barely pays: Yokoshima, a lecherous high school kid who endures poverty-level wages just to be near her, and Okinu, a 300-year-old ghost literally working off the cost of her own future exorcism. The dynamic between these three is where the comedy lives, and it's genuinely funny in that chaotic 90s slapstick way. This movie pits Mikami against a vampire sorcerer who resurfaces in Tokyo after a century, and it's a tight, self-contained story that captures everything the manga does well — occult action, absurd comedy, and a protagonist whose motivation is always, always money first. If you liked the irreverent tone of Slayers or the idea of a for-profit exorcism business like in Mob Psycho 100, this hits a similar nerve. It's got that Ushio to Tora energy too, where Japanese folklore meets big action setpieces, just filtered through a comedic lens. At one movie long, it's zero commitment. Toei Animation handled it, the source manga ran in Shonen Sunday, and the whole thing just works as a fun afternoon watch.
