In a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by war and terrorism, intelligence agent Clavis Shepherd races against time to uncover the truth behind a mysterious figure, John Paul, believed to be responsible for the global collapse.

📖 SYNOPSIS

A homemade nuclear weapon wipes Sarajevo off the map, and the world responds exactly how you'd expect — democracies go full surveillance state, developing nations spiral into genocide, and nobody's really safe anymore. Into this mess steps Clavis Shepherd, an intelligence agent sent to hunt down John Paul, a mysterious American linguist who somehow keeps showing up in countries right before they tear themselves apart. The question isn't just where John Paul is, but what he's actually doing — and whether the mechanisms behind mass violence run deeper than anyone wants to admit.

This is a movie that takes its time with uncomfortable questions. How much freedom do you trade for security? What happens to the people pulling triggers on behalf of governments that claim moral authority? It's heavy stuff wrapped in slick near-future military sci-fi, with detailed depictions of augmented soldiers and covert operations that feel grounded despite the tech.

If you liked Ghost in the Shell's philosophical weight or the surveillance-state paranoia of Psycho-Pass, this hits similar notes but with a sharper geopolitical edge. There's also some Ergo Proxy energy in how bleak and contemplative it gets. The animation is gorgeous — dark, detailed, and atmospheric — and the soundtrack matches that somber intensity perfectly.

Based on a novel by Project Itoh, it's a single movie from Geno Studio, so it's a tight, self-contained experience. Just know going in that the tone stays pretty relentlessly grim. This one lingers.

Geno Studio's blend of CGI and 2D animation in futuristic Prague settings sounds appealing to you
A single standalone film works better for you than committing to a full series
You want a military thriller that leans hard into philosophical and psychological themes

❌ SKIP IF...

You need a well-developed protagonist — Clavis Shepherd stays pretty flat throughout the film
Dense philosophical dialogue mixed with action sequences sounds like a messy combo to you
Graphic war violence and depictions of real-world atrocities aren't something you're up for
