EPISODE REVIEWS

One of the most heartbreaking moments for anime fans. It expands the morality of the series and dictates everything going forward. It is one of the main moments that push Ed and Al to really question who they are in this world and what they are doing.

Episode Context

Coming directly off Edward's triumph in the State Alchemy Exam in episode 6, this episode brutally reframes what it means to serve the military as an alchemist, stripping away any lingering idealism. It marks a critical tonal turning point early in the 51-episode run, establishing the moral weight and consequences that will define every major conflict going forward. The themes introduced here, ambition, ethics, and the cost of knowledge, become the philosophical backbone of the entire series.
