Episode Context

Coming directly off the emotional fallout of 'Human Transmutation,' this episode escalates Edward and Alphonse's reckoning with the homunculi they helped bring into existence, serving as a critical bridge into the series' final stretch. While classified as anime-original content diverging from Hiromu Arakawa's manga, it functions as a genuine narrative turning point within the 2003 adaptation's continuity. The stage is now set for 'Goodbye,' which continues to unravel the complex web of relationships and confrontations driving toward the climax across the remaining four episodes.
