Five Card
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Teaching English at a Japanese high school, young instructor Daina Nariyuki is considerably more interested in his students than in lesson plans. Specifically, four of them — Lisa, Fumiko, Naoki, and Mimiko — have caught his attention, and he's doing very little to hide it. The setup is already plenty chaotic, but then the school dean, Onikuma, turns out to have his own agenda running quietly in the background, and it's not exactly by the book. Add in Mayu, Daina's new assistant who arrives and immediately complicates everything further, and you've got a four-episode OVA from 2000 that leans hard into its comedy while delivering exactly what the adult label promises. The character designs have that late-90s expressiveness to them, and the tone stays light and youthful rather than going dark or serious. If you've watched something like Discipline or Bible Black and wanted something with a bit more humor baked in, Five Card is closer to that end of the spectrum. It's not trying to be anything it isn't — a short, comedic adult romp with a school setting and a cast of characters who are all, in their own way, scheming. Based on a visual novel and produced by Alice Production, it moves quickly across its four episodes without overstaying its welcome.
