Episode Context

Arriving just past the season's midpoint after Ippo's grueling Rookie of the Year clash, episode 39 deliberately pulls away from the protagonist to develop Miyata's parallel journey, a narrative thread that has been simmering since the series' earliest episodes. This Thailand arc deepens the emotional investment in the Ippo-Miyata rivalry by humanizing Miyata's own struggles independently. It directly sets up 'A Counter to Surpass All Counters,' where Miyata's growth abroad begins to crystallize into tangible strategic evolution.
