Fei Ren Zai 3rd Season
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Nine-tailed fox spirit Jiu Yue has been alive for two centuries, and she still hasn't figured out office culture. In Fei Ren Zai 3rd Season, she's back at her day job alongside coworkers who are also mythical creatures from Chinese folklore — all of them trying to pass as normal humans in a modern city, with mixed results. The comedy comes from the gap between ancient supernatural beings and the mundane absurdities of contemporary life. Think less epic fantasy battles, more "a centuries-old spirit struggling with instant noodles and corporate meetings." This 12-episode ONA keeps things short and snappy, so each episode is a quick hit of low-stakes humor rooted in Chinese mythology. If you liked the way Pleasant Goat and Big Big Wolf plays with familiar archetypes for laughs, or how Thunderbolt Fantasy takes mythology-adjacent material and just runs with it in unexpected directions, Fei Ren Zai operates in a similar spirit — just way more chill and grounded in everyday life. You don't need to have seen the first two seasons to get the vibe, though they help with character context. The whole thing is adapted from a web manga and animated by Fenz, and honestly it works best as a palate cleanser between heavier shows. No world-ending stakes, no dramatic twists — just ancient beings being confused by modernity, which turns out to be consistently funny.
