For a second, I thought I was watching an episode of Madoka Magica. This episode was Studio Shaft doing Shaft things with their animation. It doesn't do any service for this anime though, as the episode remained nearly nonsensical and errd on the side of boring.

This episode being a mess made me enjoy it. By not understanding the episode and just simply watching it, I got a fresh perspective to take the episode as it is. The use of illusion is good that makes you feel something isn't right.

Easily the most "Shaft" episode yet. The animation and style are unique and stand out, but narratively it’s a mess. Too much lore and trauma dumping from characters we frankly don’t know well enough to care about.
