Synopsis
*Fate/Zero* plunges viewers into the Fourth Holy Grail War, a conflict fought for the legendary Holy Grail, a wish-granting artifact. Seven mages, each paired with a heroic spirit from history, engage in a deadly competition. The Einzbern family, confident in their advantage, hires Kiritsugu Emiya, a notorious mercenary, to fight for them. He is bound by marriage to their daughter, Irisviel, and must navigate a treacherous landscape of betrayal and violence. Kiritsugu's pragmatism clashes with the ideals of his opponents, including Kirei Kotomine, a priest searching for meaning. The series explores themes of morality, sacrifice, and the corrupting influence of power, as the participants fight for their desires, knowing that only one can claim the Grail. The extended first episode sets the stage for a dark and compelling narrative.
